Wednesday, July 7 - 11: Back to Illinois and home

July 7 - Left for Illinois

We left DC for Illinois.  The drive through the edge of West Virginia and Lancaster County PA was very pretty.  It would have been nice to have had more time in that area.

It is about a 1,000 mile drive, which we drove in two days.

July 8 - Driving to Illinois

Ran into a weather front and it just suddenly poured so hard that I could only see maybe 20 – 30 feet.  I got off the freeway quickly and we ate lunch.  After lunch, it still rained some, but not hard.  We spotted a funnel cloud off to the left.  It did not touch down and was gone in 10 minutes.  First funnel cloud I had ever seen, and the first funnel for Mary as well, and she grew up in Illinois.

July 9, 10, 11 - Illinois and home.

Spent a couple days in Illinois visiting family and friends, before flying home on Sunday.
